end of the civil war. this book looks familiar. can you zoom in? look at this picture. does this look familiar? this is a picture of a man who is malnourished who is in prison. how about this picture? anything we might have seen in the 20 the century? exactly like that. this was a concentration camp in the south. don't tell me it can have -- can't happen again, it desperate this is a book from 81. this is a rare book. it is rare because nobody wanted to read it. [laughter] it's what we did to the native americans. we did manifest destiny.

[applause] let me show up two more things. actually four -- [laughter] this is from 1771. this is not its original cover. this is a book "the inefficacy of preaching." this was first printed in paris 1771. what is the message? it is the preacher, is the churches. because the churches had gone wrong, because the churches had become about the government, they were an arm of the government and so

they could make the case that the churches -- this is an awful, evil book. let me read all last couple of pages. "enjoy the moment which heavens forbearance grants you can drink cup the cup of inequity and intoxicate yourself with the poison of destructive flatters tell all the people discovering nothing respectable in the rich and the great insult and molest and the spoil them and their possessions, until all the orders of the state running headlong into each other under the weight of every vice break asunder the bands of law and concord." that is the last line. it is riddled with this. rise up. be who you really are. get 'em.

it is this book -- this is the coming interaction, this is a new book. i think this was printed first in 2006. this is "occupy wall street.' if you don't see this and if you haven't read this and you don't know what this is and you don't know what the seeds are that have been planted long before the french revolution, 1771, long before the french revolution, 2006, long before what was happening in france and is happening in greece, is happening in egypt, it is get 'em. what are we hearing from so many people? get 'em. it's the rich.

it's those guys. whoever those guys are. it does not matter. it doesn't matter. we can make those guys and to anybody. that is not the answer. this is from 1836. this is after ander jackson, six years and manifest destiny and there was a big market crash. the whole country is starting to start and the talks about it was not possible although six months ago the despondency among the minds was nearly hopeless, how business should die entirely unless the nation had died also, a nation as large as our on consuming continually.

there is no argument there. 30% of our population, conservative population, is a recognized. we have to get registered. i'm getting a message that my microphone is not on? can you hear me? 30% of our nation is not registered in conservative critics. massive, active groups. that is crazy.

in one state, 41,000 people gave checks to the gop. 41,000, 19,000 of those people were not registered. you care enough to give your hard-earned money but not to vote? your vote is much more valuable currency then you're ever rapidly diminished currency. we have to register to vote. we have to be politically involved. we have to connect with one another. we have to reach out beyond our comfort zone. we have to look for like-minded people and say i will not agree with you about 30% of what you say. but you are a decent person and

we agree on core issues. your fight is my fight, my fight is your fight. when they started going after the catholics, they want you to declare yourself a catholic. in an interview i was asked about what i thought the mormon divide was. >> that does not play a role. in common sense thinking, you look at the content of the character. you don't look at the party - [applause] how many of us have voted for somebody in a party that we thought they are republican. that label means nothing. how does a man live his life? role, ourt plays a character, and we need to look

at our character first. take the beam out of our own eyes and look to our character first. nobody wants to follow us. what do you think barack obama's polls are going down? because he always says it is someone else's fault. that was a tough decision to take out osama bin laden. [applause] when he was looking to do that, he had to have a letter to say i will blame on someone else in case it goes wrong. nobody wants to follow that person. nobody wants to follow a person who will is looking to place blame. nobody wants to beat with a group that is always against something.

we have a god-given opportunity. i have seen the finger of god. i have seen it. i have seen miracles happen over and over again i have seen it. whether you want to recognize it or call it a coincidence, god bless you. we will have a good laugh when we are all up and have been together. -- when we are all up in heaven together. you can call it what you want but i have seen the finger of god. he is not neutral in the affairs of man. it is not neutral in the freedom of mankind. stadium. i did not knowing if anyone would come. this july, we are doing three nights in dallas. we are doing freeze night -- we're doing first night with freedom works. they help me organize something when i am went to the vatican and met with world freedom leaders. people who are fighting in georgia and australia and all around the world and begging for america to help us. party.t have a tea our people don't understand all government. 1000 are coming to dallas on july 26. freedom works signed their name on the bottom of a leaf for the american airlines center. please come, tell oriel friends. -- tell or all your friends.

some of the biggest state leaders are being put together and the night is a deal like we had in washington with preachers and the public is invited to come but the day is preachers and past owners and rabbis and priests kicking each other's and trying to help one another. had we find our way back toward basic principles and then on saturday is a celebration at dallas cowboys stadium to take our culture back. it is not enough to win at the polls. we have given enough. we're going to lose. i was watching the show " glee" with my wife and we were shocked.

it is shocking the things they are teaching high schoolers but it is brilliantly done. i said to her that we lose. there is no way to beat that. yes, there is. we spent about one year trying to put together a push back with artists and music but not the stereotypical conservative lee greenwood music. we have to take a stand. we are in texas for a reason. driveline in the sand. we're not going any farther than this. we say this is the end of a line. we are moving this way now. that happens on july 28. we are also doing a service project of the day before. we have 30,000 people signed up to stand together and go into communities and serve and help clean and help paint and help raise food. [applause] in the first week since i have announced this, already just the audience has raised 1 million meals for the homeless. that is in one week. what can we do together? what can we do we all stand together? it is not enough to be against big government programs. we must be for charity and actively involved and engaged and let people see it. [applause] i want to leave you with this -- my life has taken such a turn in

the last 10 years. in 1999, nobody would cross the street to shake my hand. and i did not deserve it. i spent my life on the wrong side. i changed my life and i sobered up. and i found faith and the redeeming power of the savior and i changed my life and i promised that if he would just erase the things i had done at least in my own head, if he would take the burden for me, that i would do what he asked me to do. i have been so blessed. with some of the wealth we have found, we have tried to begin to collect the documents that tell the story of america both good and bad because we need both. we have to be able to make that case. for christmas, my wife gave me

and iavor think that i oown own some amazing things that we will share with david barton and the coming months and years. for christmas, i opened this gift up. there was a man in hungary who was sent to the swedish embassy and he was allowed to give people their dignity back. he would write official letters declaring people swedes and giving them letters of protection and letters that said "this individual does not have to wear the yellow star. they

are now under our protection." this is one of the last letter she wrote -- this is for a woman who went on to do amazing things in literature and art and came here to america later. one of the last letters saying," she does not have to wear your yellow star. she is with us." when it was issued, people around him said you have to leave. the russians are coming and they will kill you. he said that he would not. because there were still people to save the. he remained. we don't know where he is buried.

he was taken by the russians shortly after this letter. he saved thousands. it only takes one person. it only takes one person to do the right thing. , to change the world. the world is going to go either incredibly dark or incredibly light. it cannot remain in disk gray period much longer. we will chart its course. we, as individuals, will decide. give short shrift the opportunity to say my father stood, my mother was a force for

president obama announced a new immigration policy, stopping the deportation of some illegal immigrants who came to the united states as children. undocumented immigrants brought to the country for a 16 and you were younger than 30 make qualify for the deferred action on deportation. speaking from the rose garden, the president said the failure of congress to immigration legislation was the main reason for the executive actions. this statement was interrupted twice by a reporter from "the daily quarter." caller." >> good afternoon, everybody. this morning, secretary of paula tunnel announced new actions my administration will take to amend our nation's immigration policy, to make it more fair,

more efficient, and more just, specifically for certain young people sometimes call the dreamers. these are young people who study in our schools, they play in our neighborhoods, they are friends with their kids, they pledge allegiance to our flag. they are americans in their hearts and in their minds and in every single way but one -- on paper. they were brought to this country by their parents sometimes even as infants and often have no idea that they were undocumented until they applied for a job or a driver's license for a college scholarship. put yourself in their shoe. s. imagine you've got everything right your entire life, studied hard, worked hard, maybe even

graduated at the top of your class only to suddenly face the threat of deportation to a country that you know nothing about. with a language you may not even speak. that is what gave rise to the dream act. it says if your parents brought you here as a child, you have been here for five years, and you're willing to go to college or serve our military, you can one day earn your citizenship. i have said time and time again to congress to send me the dream act, put it on my desk and i will sign it right away. both parties or of this legislation and a year and a half ago, democrats passed it in the house but republicans walked away from it. it got 55 votes in the senate but republicans blocked it.

the bill does not really changed. the need has not changed. it is still the right thing to do, the only thing that has changed apparently was the politics. as i said in my speech on the economy yesterday, it makes no sense to have talented young people who for all intents and purposes have been raised american and understand themselves to be part of this country to expel these young people who want to staff our labs or start new businesses or defend our country simply because of the actions of their parents. or because the inaction of politicians. in the absence of any immigration action from congress to fix our broken immigration system, we have tried to focus our immigration enforcement resources in the right places. we prioritized border security, putting more boots on the southern border than at any time

in our history. today there are fewer illegal crossings than any time in the last 40 years. we focused and use discretion about home to prosecute, focusing on criminals who endanger our communities rather than those in education and today, deportation of criminals is up 80%. we have improved on that discretion carefully and thoughtfully. today, we are improving it again. effective immediately, the department of homeland security is taking steps to lift the shadow of deportation from the sun. people over the next few months, eligible individuals who do not present a risk to national security or public safety will be able to request a temporary release from deportation proceedings and applied for work authorization. let's be clear -- this is not an

estate. this is not immunity. this is not a pass to citizenship. this is not a permanent fix. this is a temporary stopgap measure that lets us focus on resources wisely while giving a degree of relief and hope to talented, driven, patriotic young people. it is the right thing to do. excuse me, sir. this is not time for questions, sir. not what i am speaking. -- not while i am speaking. precisely because this is temporary, congress needs to act. there's still time for congress to pass the dramatic to this year because these kids will plan their lives in more than two-year increments and we still need to pass comprehensive immigration reform that addresses are 21st century economic and security needs,

that gives our farmers and ranchers certainty about the workers that they will have, reform that gives our science and technology sectors certainty that the young people who come here to earn their ph.d.'s will not be forced to leave and start businesses and other countries, reform the aachen to do to improve border security and was up to our heritage as a nation of law and immigrants. six years ago, the unlikely trio of john the, kaine ted kennedy, and president bush came together to champion this kind of reform and i was proud to join 23 republicans in voting for it. there is no reason we cannot come together and get a. is done as long as i am president, will not give up on this issue not only because it is the right thing to do for our economy andceo's agree with me, not just

the right thing to do for security, but because it is the rights p thing to doeriod. i think eventually enough republicans in congress will come around to that view as well. i believe it is the right thing to do because i have been with groups of young people who worked so hard and speak with some much part about -- so much harder about what is best in america. some of them must have lived under the threat of deportation. some of them have come forward with great risk to themselves and their pictures in hopes it would spur the rest of us to live up to our most cherished values. i have seen the stories of americans in schools and churches and communities across the country who stood up for them and rally behind them and pushed us to give them a better path and freedom from fear because we're a better nation than one that expels the innocent young kids.

the answer to your question, sir, and the next time i prefer you let me finish my statement before u.s. the question, is this is the right thing to do. i did not ask for an argument. this is the right thing to do for the american people and here's what i -- this is the recent -- because these young people will make this extraordinary contributions and are already making contributions to our society. i have a young person serving in our military, protecting us, and our freedom. is there a notion that we would treat them as expendable? it makes no sense. if there is a young person here who has grown up here and wants to contribute to this society, wants to maybe start a business that will create jobs for other

folks were looking for work, that is the right thing to do. giving certainty to our farmers and ranchers, making sure that in addition to border security, we are creating a comprehensive framework for legal immigration. these are all the right things to do. thank you very much everybody. stop reporting some younger illegal emigrants will make it harder to solve the country's larger immigration problem. >> i believe the status of young people would come here through no fault of their own is an important matter to be considered and should be solved on a long-term basis so they know what their future would be in this country. i think the action the president took today makes it more difficult to reach that long term solution because i executive order is just a short- term matter and can be reversed by subsequent presidents. of like to see legislation that deals with this issue. i happen to agree with mark grow rubio on this issue. he said this is an important matter and would have to find a long-term solution and that the president's action makes reaching a long-term solution more difficult. if i am president, we will do our best to have a kind of long- term solution that provides certainty and clarity for the people who come into this country through no fault of their own by virtue of the acts

the heart of the american people is good. the thing we have learned as well and that i have felt so deeply and talking to so many people is that there is a sense that something has gone wrong. we hit -- we fill the light is dimming. people feel the american dream is slipping through their fingers. something is going wrong. the other thing i have been hearing is that we always, as americans, believe our children would be better off than worst and a brighter future for our children. they don't think that any more. they think something is wrong. you know what is amazing? how wonderful it has been to have had this experience, to have seen the heart of the american people and also to have

seen the fear and concern and worry. it is unbelievable how many people out there are so frustrated with the economic outlook of their lives with the job losses their suffering throw. they are feeling pinched and every single way and i hear from everyone. what i hear from women and i say this all the time is jobs. they are talking about the economy. they are talking about deficit spending. it is an amazing thing to know that so many women are out there looking and watching and hoping that help is on the way. i will tell you, hope is on -- help is on the way. do to light the fire and bring the burning light and shining city back on the hill and to give hope to the next generation and now we will have economic prosperity and a brighter future for our children. thank you so much. campaign. it was a date on -- not unlike this one. it was a gorgeous, beautiful day and kind of windy. it was the best. over the past year, it has become clear that good things begin here. we're back today with a few more friends and closer to the goal. every day, the campaign grows stronger and stronger and i think americans realize we don't have to settle for these years of disappointment and decline. instead, i think america knows we can do better. with your help, we will do better in this country. together, we'll take our campaign all the way to the white house that when this thing. [applause] -- and win this thing. since last june, we have been to towns big and small and visited businesses, some were

generations old and others were quite new, everyone of them was trying to make the best in a difficult economy. across the country, people have welcomed us into their homes and we have enjoyed long talks about family and country and -- in break rooms and backyards and diners and on factory floors. everywhere i go, i may people who represent the best of america. they are hopeful, hard-working, determined, and proud but they are also anxious and they are worried. they are tired of being tired and they're tired of a detached and distant president and never seems to hear their voices. i hear you and i will make sure that i continue to hear the people of america when i am president of the united states if i get your support. [applause] when americans rose up and demanded to stop borrowing money and sticking our kids with the bill, the president was not listening. he was in the line with china

getting another loan. when americans went to town halls and said we don't want obama care, he ignored us and spent 15 months or ramming his health care bill through congress on a single party vote. when we asked about the recovery, this president lecture us and said the private sector is doing fine. [laughter] for so many americans, the distance between their town and the city of washington has never seen so far. the federal establishment has never seen so hospital -- hostile and remote and disconnected from economic reality. and yet so willing to use restrictions and regulations, taxes and fines, commissions andtsars to direct our daily lives. americans are wondering whether our future could be as bright as the past. that lack of faith in our future is a bridge we cannot cross. from now until november, our

campaign will carry a simple message -- america's greatest days are yet ahead. [applause] washington's big government agenda should not smother small town dreams. in the america we love, every town counts, average up counts, and every american counts. we're here today to launch a campaign bus tour that will take us from new hampshire to pennsylvania and then on to ohio and iowa and finally to wisconsin and michigan. [applause] we have a michigander over there? we will travel the back roads of america. i think we will go along what i call the backbone of america.

[applause] this is the america known for thriving farms and factories, prosperous towns and cities and a great colleges and universities. it is known for solid communities and churches, all of them born out of american optimism commoners and sustained by hard work and a belief that the american future is one of the limitless possibilities and opportunity is an american birthright. we will travel to the industrial heartland of america. it was once the model to the world for mining and manufacturing innovation, maybe the greatest commercial enterprises in the world were born in those cities. they gave birth to an extraordinary middle-class which never questioned their ability to build a better life for their children these past few years, too many of these americans have been struggling and in distress.

they even have to few jobs in the spirit of enterprise, the spirit that power america's economic engin for growth and prosperity, that spirit still lives strong and it is the goal of this campaign and will be the mission of my presidency to nurture that spirit and to see it works again in this great land [applause] the world knows of the great names of those cities, places like pittsburgh, and detroit, chicago, cleveland. these are the forces of freedom, the melting pots of america. their resilience and indomitable energy are cornerstone of our future. we should never forget that some of america's biggest dreams were also born in our smallest communities, our small towns have given a greatwriteers,

great thinkers and great leaders. before their literary giants who dazzled the world, great american writers like mark twain and john steinbeck for kids playing in open spaces and dreaming of the stories that with some they tell us. before they were pioneers, thomas edison and the wright brothers looked into the dark night and up to the clear sky imagining great inventions that would change the world. no, mr. president, they're not dreaming of government loans. [laughter] [applause] small towns give us lincoln and truman, eisenhower and reagan and some of the sons and daughters who sacrificed to defend our freedom on battlefields far away. the vision, the values, the

character, and the can-do spirit you find in our small towns have made america great and these places you'll also find a special sense of community and a deep commitment to our country. these americans are quiet heroes. they raised strong families, run our factories, and grow our food. the coach little league and soccer. they serve on the pga. they are volunteers and help our neighbors. they dream big dreams sometimes for themselves but mostly for our kids. every town counts because the families of lost jobs, faced foreclosure, or have been forced to spend the money they're saving for college to make ends meet. they are our fellow americans and it is time to care for them and recognize them as such. [applause]

in recent years, they have shown great determination and real bravery. these men and women do the hard things that others they are not worth trying. they keep pressing on even when government bureaucrats and regulations keep getting in their way. they have talent and creativity and they're not about to let their family or country down by letting their dreams go. they are the backbone of america. yester day, the president gave a speech, a very long speech [laughter] you might have thought it would be a moment when he would technology is policy mistakes and suggesting new course but, no, he promised four more years of the same. four more very long. years [boos] that is really the divide of this race. the president thinks we're on the right track and his policies

are working. i believe with all my heart that we can and we must do better and we will do better. [applause] let me ask you where you stand. do you think america can do better? [applause] huguely with new leadership and a new president, our greatest days are still ahead? do you believe we can take back the white house and reclaim the greatness of america? i agree with you. [applause] by the way, somewhere in that long speech of his yesterday, the president spoke about giving people a fair shot. i could not agree more. president obama is not giving our students a fair shot when they graduate and only half of them can find jobs for work that

matches their skills. that is not a fair shot. it is not giving the middle class a fair shot when wages keep going down the prices keep going up. under president obama, more americans are living in poverty than any other time in history. he proposed to end the scholarships to go to better schools and when he bows to the demands of the teachers' unions, he is not giving a fair shot to kids all across america. he is not getting a fair shot to honor to present jobs creators when he picks winners or in his case when he picks lose is likesolyndra. barack obama is not giving a fair shot to our children and grandchildren when he saddles them with trillions of dollars of debt. it is not right for it is not a fair shot. if there is ever been a president who has failed to give the middle class america a fair shot, it is barack obama. [applause]

i have a very different vision for america. and for the future. i know what we will have to do to give our fellow americans a true shot and a better chance for their future. i see an america where free enterprise is nurtured and celebrated, not attacked. because freedom and free enterprise are what create jobs, not governments. [applause] i see an america with a growing middle class, with rising standards of living. i see children even more successful than their parents, some successful beyond their wildest dreams and others congratulating them for their achievement, not attacking them for it. [applause]

we must not allow the desperation of a failing presidency to divide our great. country i will not let that happen. [applause] i see an america that is fundamentally fair and cares for those who cannot care for themselves, then never wavers from our commitment to our seniors and gives our veterans the respect and care they richly deserve. [applause] an the american ic, a character and choices matter. education and hard work and living within our means are valued and respected and poverty will be defeated not with a government check but with respect and achievement taught by parents, learned in school, and practiced in the workplace. this is the america that was won by the nation's founders, a name are in for us by the greatest generation. it produced the most innovative, productive, and most powerful economy in the history of the earth. as i look around of the millions of americans without work, the graduates who cannot get a job, the soldiers who return home to unemployment lines, it breaks my heart. it is the result of failed leadership and a faulty vision. i am running for president because i have the experience and the vision to get us out of this mess. i am offering a real choice and a new beginning for the american people to [applause] [mitt, mitt, mitt] >> we simply can't afford four

more years of policies like we have seen over the past reply five years and weak leadership. we have to have real change and get this country on the right track again [applause] starting on day one, i will do what it takes to get america back to work. obama care will end.
